Amélie
Movie Review Of Amélie
Recently, I had the opportunity to watch 'Amélie', and honestly, it took me a little while into the movie to enjoy it for what it truly was, a love story. This is a love story however, that is a little off kilter from what I'm used to watching.
'Amélie' starts off the movie with a unique perspective. Our leading lady, Amélie, is a shy, socially awkward, and an imaginative waitress who decides to secretly orchestrate the lives of those around her, bringing them small moments of joy or, in some cases, a well-deserved dose of karma. To be honest, there were times throughout this movie that I felt close to the main character herself.
Growing up I struggled with being shy and awkward. I missed a lot of school due to Modular Kidney Disease so it was very hard for me to make friends. To be honest this is something I struggle with to this day. My husband is an extrovert, he is easy to hide behind and my best friends also had big personalilities to hide behind as well. Luckily, I was blessed with a mother who pushed me to be great. She taught me how to push myself and try new things. Without her, I would most likely would be more like Amélie than I would like to admit.
Every frame is a work of art, bursting with vibrant colors making me long to visit Paris. My older sister has been twice and I am very jealous. Paris is on my dream list of cities but with my health, having a young child, and only being able to live on one income this dream may never come true.
Amélie's journey to find love, particularly with the equally peculiar Nino, is sweet and awkward in the best possible way. All in all the ending is what made this movie special. If the ending hadn't of been so sweet and perfect, then honestly I would have been highly dissappointed, and felt that I waisted my time watching Amélie.
The ending was relatable in so many ways. The awkwardness of first love, girl meets boy, and the two souls coming together as one.
If you're looking for a traditional rom-com love story this is not your movie. However, if you're looking for a arthouse indie version of a rom-com then this is definately for you. I must admit every once in a while I love a good indie film but most of the time these movies are just not for me. Mainly because they remind me a little too much of myself. I'm you're traditional popculture basic girl who just wants fun music, clothes, and goofy love scenes that take me away from the world for a bit. Not to remind me of who I am inside.
